East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) is a lifesaving charity providing advanced critical care across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. Operating from bases in Norwich and Cambridge, its specialist crews bring hospital-level emergency treatment directly to patients experiencing some of the most serious medical emergencies and traumatic injuries throughout the region.
Founded in 2000, EAAA has grown from a single helicopter operation into one of the UK’s leading air ambulance charities. Today, its highly skilled teams of pilots, doctors, critical care paramedics and specialist clinicians respond by helicopter and rapid response vehicle, ensuring patients can receive expert care wherever and whenever it is needed.
The charity now operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, attending incidents across an area of more than 5,500 square miles. Equipped with advanced medical equipment and carrying blood products on board, EAAA crews are able to perform complex lifesaving procedures at the scene, providing a level of care normally associated with a hospital emergency department.
Since launching its first mission in 2000, EAAA has been tasked to more than 44,830 incidents and has treated over 27,776 patients across the region. The charity responds to a wide range of emergencies, including cardiac arrests, serious road traffic collisions, medical emergencies, major trauma and other life-threatening incidents, helping to give patients the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
Unlike NHS emergency services, East Anglian Air Ambulance receives no regular government funding for its day-to-day operations and relies entirely on the generosity of supporters, fundraisers, lottery players and volunteers. With an average tasking cost of £4,250, every mission depends upon the continued support of local communities to ensure this vital service remains available whenever it is needed.
