The National Children’s Air Ambulance is a charity dedicated to providing high-speed transfers for critically ill babies and children across the UK. As the country’s only charity-funded paediatric and neonatal transfer service, it helps ensure young patients can access the specialist care they need as quickly and safely as possible.
Working alongside NHS neonatal and paediatric transport teams, The National Children’s Air Ambulance transfers babies and children between hospitals when urgent access to specialist treatment is required. By using helicopters instead of road ambulances, transfer times can be significantly reduced, helping to minimise risk and improve outcomes for young patients during some of the most critical moments of their lives.
The service operates a state-of-the-art helicopter capable of flying across the country, enabling specialist clinical teams to reach hospitals quickly and transport patients to the most appropriate centre for their care. The charity works in partnership with NHS transport teams and specialist hospitals throughout the UK, helping to connect critically ill children with life-saving treatment.
Since launching its first mission in 2012, The National Children’s Air Ambulance has supported hundreds of families and completed hundreds of lifesaving transfers. Every mission is provided free of charge to the NHS and the families who rely on the service.
As a charity, The National Children’s Air Ambulance receives no regular government funding for its day-to-day operations and relies entirely on the generosity of supporters, fundraisers, lottery players and volunteers. Their support helps ensure that critically ill babies and children can reach the specialist care they need, when they need it most.
