Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) provides a lifesaving critical care service for 2.1 million people across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, North Somerset and parts of Wiltshire.
Its Critical Care Team – made up highly trained and experienced Critical Care Doctors, Advanced Practitioners and Specialist Paramedics in Critical Care, and when flying, an experienced Pilot – attends the most seriously ill and injured patients by helicopter or critical care car, bringing the expertise of a hospital Emergency Department directly to the scene.
GWAAC responds to more than 2,000 incidents a year, from cardiac arrests to serious road traffic collisions – more than six incidents every day on average. It is one of the busiest air ambulance services in the UK, and demand for the service continues to grow.
The charity receives no day-to-day funding from the Government or National Lottery and must raise over £4 million each year to remain operational, relying on the generosity of its supporters to keep its crew ready to respond when people need it most.
