Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) is a charity providing advanced pre-hospital emergency medical care across Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. Operating a fleet of helicopters and rapid response vehicles, its specialist teams of doctors, critical care paramedics and pilots deliver lifesaving treatment to patients at the scene of some of the region’s most serious medical emergencies and traumatic incidents.
Founded in 1998, EHAAT has grown into one of the UK’s leading air ambulance charities, attending thousands of missions every year. The charity operates from airbases at Earls Colne in Essex and North Weald in Essex, providing rapid access to expert critical care across both counties. Its crews are equipped to perform complex medical procedures usually only available within a hospital emergency department, giving patients the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
The charity now provides a 24-hour service, 365 days a year, responding by helicopter during daylight hours and by rapid response vehicles throughout the day and night. This capability ensures that critically ill and injured patients can receive specialist care whenever and wherever it is needed.
Demand for the service continues to grow. EHAAT attends over 2,500 missions each year, responding to a wide range of emergencies including cardiac arrests, serious road traffic collisions, falls, sporting injuries and other life-threatening incidents. Every mission is funded through the generosity of supporters, as the charity receives no regular government funding for its day-to-day operations.
Since its first mission in 1998, Essex & Herts Air Ambulance has attended tens of thousands of incidents and has become an integral part of the emergency care network across the region. Through continual investment in people, training and equipment, the charity remains committed to delivering world-class critical care to patients when every second counts.
