The Midlands Air Ambulance Lifesaving Lottery will generate records profits for the charity this financial year. At a recent base visit in which lottery fundraisers got to meet the crew and staff, it was announced that income from the weekly draw has grown year-on-year and for the current 12-month period, it looks likely to donate over £3.75m to the charity. This will mean that over £15m has been generated by the lottery since it began.
Tower Lotteries have acted as External Lottery Manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity for over 10 years now. Having started from 0 players, the draw now has a membership of over 93,000 with the profits helping to fund the three helicopters and rapid response vehicles that operate in Worcestershire, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Staffordshire and Birmingham.
In November, fundraisers recruiting for the lottery visited Strensham Airbase just off the M5. The purpose of the visit was for the fundraisers to see how the money they raise gets spent, and how important the income is to the charity.
After meeting the crew and staff, the fundraisers were given first aid training by the charity. The thought process behind this, is that fundraisers meet more members of the public than anybody else, so in times of emergency, they are most likely to turn to somebody wearing branded MAAC uniform. The basic course gave the fundraisers knowledge of what to do in such an emergency, but naturally we all hope they don’t have to put it into practise!
