Following on from our previous post about the wonderful work our canvassers are getting involved in, one particular story stood out.
Meet Bill.
Bill can normally be found in the North West region’s supermarkets and other assorted venues as a face to face fundraiser for the local Air Ambulance. A position he holds with pride. So much so, that he runs a team of likeminded guys.
Unfortunately, with the advent of the introduction of strict government instructions to help slow the pace of the Coronavirus, face to face fundraising has no longer been possible and we were quick to responsibly respond, unfortunately this led to our canvassers being unable to work.
Bill was quick to react in securing a new role as a Community Champion in his local Morrisons store.
Bill’s store is one of only a few Morrisons that are attempting to identify the vulnerable customers in their community (those on 12 week lockdown) as the online shopping and delivery service is incredibly busy. Morrisons is also donating lots of food to those that need it to foodbanks which Bill is helping co-ordinate. He also is ensuring that those queuing to get in the supermarket are ok and letting them go to the front if needs must.
Once identified these customers are provided with a direct line to the store/Bill who then take their food order and Bill delivers it personally in his own car to keep the online delivery service ticking over.
Bill hopes to return to face to face fundraising for his local Air Ambulance as soon as restriction are lifted but in the meantime everyone at Tower are proud of the work Bill has taken on.
Others on Bill’s team include John who is working nights at Tesco stacking shelves and Keiron who is a registered carer and is doing care work.
